Shortly after a press release by the Recording Academy, a rather excited Alicia took to her social media to make the huge announcement and has since posted other videos to share more details about her role as host for the event which is in its 61st year.

The singer and actress shared a close to ten-minute video of the announcement that takes fans through how she broke the news to friends, family and loved ones. In the video, Alicia also takes us behind the scenes of her hosting announcement shoot for the Recording Academy.

According to the New York Times, CEO and President of Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, gave this reason why Alicia Keys is the best host for the Grammy, 14 years after Queen Latifah hosted as the last woman in 2005.

“A dynamic artist with the rare combination of groundbreaking talent and passion for her craft, Alicia Keys is the perfect choice as host for our show.Throughout her exciting career, I have watched her become a powerful force within the music industry and beyond. As an artist who speaks to the power of music for good, a role model, and a spokesperson for change, we are thrilled to have her on board for what’s sure to be an unforgettable GRAMMY Awards.”

The Grammy Awards Executive Producer, Ken Ehrlich, also had a few words to say about why Alicia is the best pick as the 2019 host.
“Alicia is one of those rare artists who meld true musical genius with heartfelt emotional lyrics to create a unique approach to everything she does. We have no doubt that she’ll bring all of that as she guides millions of Grammy viewers through what we believe will be a very special show in February.”

Since the major announcement, many  have also taken to social media to express their excitement about the legendary singer being the host of the 2019 Grammy Awards.

With the world in full support of having an iconic female musician as host, Alicia Keys also took time to explain why she will be hosting the close to 4-hour event and what fans should expect.  “I know what it feels like to be on that stage, and I’m going to bring that vibe and energy. I’m so excited to be the master of ceremonies on the biggest night in music and celebrate the creativity, power and, magic. I’m especially excited for all the incredible women nominated this year! It’s going ‘UP’ on February 10!”

This year’s Grammy Awards has been described as leaning towards more female artists and female participation in the awards show and Alicia Keys as host is a sweeter icing on the cake.
