There is often a lot of worldwide buzz at the end of October as many Western countries celebrate Halloween annually on October 31.
Even though there have been several attempts to celebrate Halloween in Africa, it is still a very foreign thing to many communities, which have not been able to fully accept the culture and practice.
Originating from the Celtic Harvest Festival practices of celebrating and remembering the dead, Halloween has, over the years, grown to become an innocent night of trick-or-treating and dressing up in fancy costumes usually of dark or evil characters or of one’s favourite fictional personality or celebrity.
For many Africans and blacks all over the world who do not buy into the idea of this Western tradition, here are five African festivals very similar to Halloween that can make better and meaningful substitute to celebrate.
