It’s always a norm to connect your phone to the nearest WiFi when you get the opportunity because it’s relatively faster as compared to mobile internet.
This is, however, the complete opposite in some countries mainly because of better mobile network technology.
According to a global study conducted by mobile analytics company OneSignal, smartphone users in 33 countries have faster mobile internet download speeds compared to WiFi.
Coming up top on was Australia with an average mobile download speed of 34.6 megabits per second (Mbps) as compared to an average WiFi download speed of 21.6 Mbps.
With 5G set to further optimize mobile internet experience when rolled out, the report predicted more countries will have faster mobile internet speed than WiFi but still emphasized on the latter’s indispensable role.
“Operators, device makers and consumers need to alter the relationship they have with Wifi and mobile to reflect the improvements in the mobile experience now and in the immediate 5G future,” OneSignal reported.
Six African countries were reported to have faster mobile internet speed compared to WiFi.
