Burna Boy makes history as the first African artist to sell out a U.S Stadium

Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, has made history again in the US, where he thrilled fans with the sounds from his last four music albums – Outside, African Giant, Twice As Tall, and Love Damini.

According to Hot 97, the self-acclaimed ‘African Giant’ sold out the 41,000-seat Citi Field Stadium in New York City on Saturday, July 8.

His sister, Nissi, gave an opening rendition at the music event, while British rapper, Dave, also graced the occasion and joined Burna Boy to perform their collaborative song, Location. The Nigerian star also performed a sneak peek of his single, ‘Big 7.’

This recent achievement is one of his many history-making events in recent times. After the show, Burna Boy took to his Instagram page to chronicle his journey in New York.

He said “I’m truly speechless. Last night was a movie. Thank you New York.” He added, “PlayStation Theatre – 2017, Gramercy Theatre – 2018, The Apollo – 2019, Madison Square Garden – 2022, Cranfield Stadium – 2023. What a journey, Glory to God.”

In late 2022, Burna Boy traversed the Caribbean Islands, where he performed at different locations. Hot 97 also reported that the Afrobeats singer became the first African act to headline stadia in Trinidad, Antigua, and Jamaica.

On October 2022, he became the first Afrobeats act to headline Tipsy Musical Festival at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami.

Again, in 2022, Burna Boy added another accolade to his collections with the launch of his cannabis brand – BRKFST, in partnership with Jokes Up Ice Cream, a Los Angeles dispensary.

The launch of BRKFST, which coincided with Miami Carnival, started on October 6 with a pop-up shop, followed by brunch at a diner in South Beach and another pop-up shop at the Los Angeles dispensary on October 15. The brand’s name is believed to have been inspired by the lyrics of his hit song ‘Last Last’ “na everybody go chop breakfast.”
