A Massachusetts cop’s wife, Maria Daly, is accused of reporting a false burglary attempt after she vandalized her own home and set up the crime scene to look like it had something to do with Black Lives Matter (BLM) activists. According to the New York Daily, Daly has been charged with filing a false police report and misleading a police investigation.
Maria, who is the wife of Millbury K-9 officer Daniel Daly, filed a police report on October 17th claiming that her home was raided while her and her husband were asleep. She reportedly told police that the burglars had made off with about $10,000 in jewelery and other items.
She also told police that the burglars had sprayed-painted graffiti with the initials “BLM” (in reference to the Black Lives Movement) on the outside wall of her house.
The BLM movement is an activist network that campaigns against police violence and inequality in the American criminal justice system.
The movement was founded in 2013 amidst widespread protests by the African-American community following the deaths of Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, and Eric Garner at the hands of police. The movement also draws attention to broader issues of race relations including, racial profiling, unequal opportunities, and subtle forms of racism that continue to exist in America today.

If you would have asked me yesterday about this blue lives and Black Lives Matter issue, my response would have been very positive. Today, on the other hand, I have so much anger and hate that I don’t like myself.”
Investigators immediately recognized that something about Maria’s narrative didn’t add up. Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorcy noted that, “Something wasn’t quite right. I think that was pretty obvious and as a result of that investigation, the officers did their due diligence and followed through with the investigation that we had.”
On Saturday, investigators revealed that they had convincing evidence that Daly was lying. She eventually confessed that there had been no burglary or home invasion. She admitted that she set up the “crime scene” to look like intruders had vandalized her home in an attempt to get investigators to direct their investigation at members of the BLM movement.
Investigators say there is nothing to suggest her husband was an active collaborator nor did he have any knowledge of what was happening. Desorcy emphasized that officer Daly was exonerated following their investigation, adding that his wife wouldn’t receive any preferential treatment.
