Guinea stunned the tournament favorite with a well-placed volley from Mohamed Yattara in the 36th minute.
Afterward, a visibly shaken and frustrated Ivorian side saw their star and danger man sent off after he hit Naby Keita in the face.
Realizing their numerical advantage, Guinea nearly widened their lead against this star-studded Ivorian side when Ibrahima Traore hit the bar to the relief of Les Elephant.
However, in the 72nd minute, Cote D’Ivoire managed to avert a terrible start by getting Wilfried Bony‘s pass to connect with substitute Seydou Doumbia’s for a low shot goal.
With momentum shifted in favor of Herve Renard’s side, Bony nearly took the lead for Cote D’Ivoire, however, this was not to be as the two West African teams settled for a draw.

In the other group D match, Mali and Cameroon settled for a similar 1-1 draw.
Although Mali had a better first half, it wasn’t until the 71st-minute that Sambou Yatabare took the lead for the Henry Kasperczak side.
In the 84th minute, Cameroon’s right-back Ambroise Oyongo scored for the Indomitable Lions, after collecting a pass from Raoul Loe to get his team on level terms.
