Doug Richard of Dragon’s Den to Help Nigerian Businesses

Former reality star and businessman from the United Kingdom (UK) Doug Richard has started an initiative in Nigeria to help young entrepreneurs start their businesses.

According to the BBC, Richard has said that he hopes to help about 1,250 people start businesses. The scheme will be funded by the Nigerian and UK governments.

Richard calls it his “School for Startups.”

"Nigeria has the potential to be Africa's entrepreneurial superpower," he said.

Nigeria is the most populous sub-Saharan country with over 160 million people. Many of these people are businessmen and businesswomen who travel frequently to and from Europe, Asia and North America.

"It's the single most diverse group of opportunities I shall ever see in my life. I'm hoping that the vast majority of the 1,250 [people earmarked for training] start up businesses and that business is on the way to some kind of success,” Richard explained.

He also told the BBC that the Nigerian government set aside $50 million to help these entrepreneurs open their businesses.
