Mali Forms New Unity Government in an Attempt to Restore Stability

Responding to pressure from the ECOWAS, Mali has formed a new unity government in an attempt to bring stability to the country.  The announcement, which was made on the state television announced that the new cabinet will have 31 ministers performing in various capacities.

The head of the interim government, Cheick Modibo Diarrha, however, will stay on as the Prime Minister.

The question remains as to how effective this new unity government will be considering the lack of progress in recent months. The country, which for the past few years demonstrated the potential for economic and political stability, has been in a turmoil after a military coup earlier this March.

Although the move to establish a unity government demonstrates the willingness of officials to restore peace and stability, its effectiveness remains unknown.

Share your thoughts. What do you think it is going to take for stability to be restored in the country?
