There’s a new Hip-Co song that is a hit in Liberia, and its hook is armed with an important message, “It’s real/It’s time to protect yourself/Ebola is here.”

Featuring three of Liberia’s top artists, F.A., DenG, and Soul Fresh, “Ebola Is Real” seeks to educate the youth through a medium they can easily identify with.
And as one of Liberia’s top songs, it is doing just that.
Adolphus Scott, a communications specialist for UNICEF, came up with the idea for the song along with radio station Hott FM and Liberia’s Ministry of Social Welfare.
About the success of the song, Scott says, “It’s the most-played song right now.”
Scott and his partners tapped the aforementioned artists for the song, and then the artists put their heads together to write lyrics, such as “When your monkey want play/Don’t play with him,” and, “The only way you can get Ebola is to get in direct contact with the blood, saliva, urine, stool, sweat, semen of an infected person or infected animal” — over a catchy beat of course.

Just last week, Liberia made international news when looters and protestors reportedly broke in to an Ebola health facility and 17 patients went missing.
Some of the protestors were reportedly there because they believe the hemorrhagic fever is a “hoax,” while others were said not to agree with authorities’ decision to make that particular facility one of the main Ebola treatment centers of the area.
By last Tuesday, though, all 17 of the missing patients were found and relocated to another health facility.

Meanwhile, this week, one of three Liberian doctors, Abraham Borbor, who was being treated with untested but relatively successful drug ZMapp, died on Sunday.
