Ex-Washington Wizards guard Ryan Rollins accused of shoplifting from Target multiple times while with team

Ryan Rollins, a former Washington Wizards guard who was released by the team, has been accused of shoplifting multiple times at a Target store, according to court filings.

In court papers, the police claimed that during Rollins’ tenure with the Wizards, from September 9 to November 9, he stole small home items from a Target store, including groceries, body wash, and candles

According to The Athletic, he was charged with seven charges of petit larceny, with the things allegedly stolen in each occurrence valued at less than $1,000.

The publication pointed out that petit larceny from a business in Virginia is categorized as a Class 1 misdemeanor if the goods are valued at less than $1,000. Rollins has yet to enter a plea and is due back in court on February 7.

The Wizards released the 21-year-old athlete on Monday after he had appeared in 10 regular-season games.

Monumental Basketball president Michael Winger told The Athletic, “We just recently learned of the charges against Ryan. We cannot comment on that matter, or the basis for our roster decisions.”

He added, “We do take our role very seriously as citizens of the DMV, representatives of our fans, and a team our community can be proud of. These are expectations, not aspirations. We’re eager to move forward with our team as constituted and pursue excellence on and off the court.”

Rollins’ attorney, Nathan Muyskens, and agency, Mike Silverman, declined to comment when approached.

Rollins’ $1.7 million compensation for the 2023-24 season was completely guaranteed, as was $600,000 of his 2024-25 salary.

According to NBC Sports, the Hawks drafted Rollins in the middle of the second round in 2022, No. 44 overall out of Toledo, and traded him to the Warriors on draft night.

He appeared in 12 games for Golden State last season before being moved to Washington last summer as part of the Chris Paul/Jordan Poole deal.
