No one can talk about Chicago without talking about its rich African American history and culture. African Americans played an integral role in shaping Chicago and today there are thriving African American communities, especially in Hyde Park and Bronzeville where Black heritage is widely celebrated.
African Americans in Chicago give so much reverence to its first black settler, originally from Haiti, Jean Baptiste Point DuSable. There is an outpouring of the rich history of African Americans that can be seen from the foods served at the restaurants to museums among others.
