Ghanaian architect accused of killing three people and storing body parts in freezer

Authorities in Ghana have arrested a 28-year-old architect in connection with the gruesome murder of two children and an adult in the country’s Bono Region. The body parts of one of the victims were found reportedly chopped and stocked in the freezer of the suspect, Richard Appiah.

According to MyJoyOnline, the unidentified victims, including two children aged 12 and 15, were found in Appiah’s residence on August 20. The case has since been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters in the capital city of Accra.

“The remains are being moved to the Ghana Police Service hospital morgue in Accra for forensic analysis to be done to support the investigation,” the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Kwaku Obeng, said.

Other local news outlets reported the news of the murders sent shockwaves in the community it happened. And the discoveries of the bodies were made after one of the victims was reported missing. The teenager, who is said to be related to Appiah, was last seen with the suspect.

Authorities said Appiah tried absolving himself of the teen’s murder by joining a search party to find the victim. He also provided leads on where the missing teen could be located, Ghanaweb reported. The search party ultimately discovered the bodies of the victims after they went to the suspect’s house.

“We are aware that Police alone cannot solve all issues in incidents like this and the public is very critical in the Police investigation process. Therefore, two liaison officers have been selected and will avail their services from tomorrow [Monday],” Superintendent Obeng said.

“This will be spearheaded by the Bono region Police Command. Their work is to liaise with families affected and Police so that we will be able to know how far we have gone into the accident investigation and issues that bother the family members. Through them, the administration will know and deliver swift redress.”

The police said clinical psychologists and counselors have been sent to the community to counsel the families of the victims and other people affected by the tragic incident. Another suspect has also since been arrested in connection with the killings.
