Kevin Onyona is a multi-award-winning Kenyan businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist living in the Washington DC metropolitan area. He is the Founder and owner of the popular top-rated hospitality group – Swahili Village, which he founded more than 20 years ago.
Kevin, alongside his wife, founded the Swahili Village Group and has progressively utilized the organization to create an authentic, seamless, and rewarding connection between the African culture and the rest of the world.
“The African culture is very misinterpreted globally and it is time we stood up and displayed the authenticity of our originality in culture, food, arts, ad music,” he said.
Kevin has actioned the above thoughts through five top-class African eateries known as Swahili Village restaurants. The first restaurant, located in the State of Maryland, became a gathering spot for Africans away from their motherland, to feel at home with the finely prepared meals and drinks.
Ten years after establishing the Maryland branch of his restaurant chain and receiving numerous national and international awards, Kevin began expanding his hospitality business in line with his original mission of overtaking the entire United States of America.
The Swahili Village DC, known as The Consulate, positions itself as the leading African restaurant and social and cultural event center that fosters U.S-African engagement.
“We thought it was important to take an opportunity to truly celebrate our place here in DC and remind everyone that we have big plans as we move forward in our mission to bring people together through food, culture, art, and enlightened conversations” he explained.
Today, the Swahili Village Group stands outstandingly as a fusion of world-class fine dining, cultural events, philanthropic initiatives, and an entrepreneurship center offering value locally and internationally.
Kevin’s five restaurants extend across Beltsville in Maryland, Northwest in the District of Colombia, Newark in New Jersey, Tyson’s Corner in Virginia, and Manhattan in New York.
The Swahili Village restaurant in Maryland is Kevin’s oldest restaurant, serving the cities of Beltsville, College Park, Laurel, Colombia, and Baltimore.
