How would you know if your partner is the right one? Barack Obama spills the beans

Besides being a highly experienced politician, an affable person and a dedicated family man, Barack Obama does also appear to definitely know a thing or two about knowing if the person you are dating is the “right one”.

The former US President’s ex-Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer in his recently released book Yes We (Still) Can, wrote about how Obama dropped some priceless relationship gems to him on his last day at the White House in 2015. After telling Obama of his plans of moving in with his then-girlfriend Howli Ledbetter, he gave him a piece of advice.

Below is the excerpt from the book where he recalled their conversation.

“So are you guys moving in together? This is the one, huh? Obama was always very proud of the relationships that had sprung from his campaigns and administration. As one example in 2016, I went to four different weddings of people who met working for Barack Obama. One of those was mine.

He continued, “Here’s the advice I give everyone about marriage – is she someone you find interesting?”

I was initially confused by the question, but I figured out he must have a point.

“You will spend more time with this person than anyone else for the rest of your life, and there is nothing more important than always wanting to hear what she has to say about things,” Obama continued.

“Does she make you laugh? And I don’t know if you want kids, but if you do, do you think she’ll be a good mom? Life is long. These are the things that really matter over the long term.”

We had just pulled up to the plane, and the world was waiting for us to get out.

“Howli is incredibly interesting, funnier than I am, and will be a phenomenal mom,” I told the president.

“Sounds like she’s the one, lucky you,” Obama told me as he exited the limo and headed up the stairs to get on Air Force One.

A year later Howli and I were engaged. And this is the advice I now give everyone about relationships.
