Idris Elba hints at ‘Luther’ film and we are excited

Idris Elba won the hearts of many as our favorite troubled London Metropolitan Police Service detective, John Luther. Now, could Luther be heading to the big screen? Elba teased in a recent Zoom event, Sky News reported.

The star of the hit BBC show, which debuted in 2010 on BBC America and has had five seasons so far, said there is no real plan for the film yet. He, however, reiterated his desire to see our fav disturbed detective on screen again.

“There isn’t a real formal plan for Luther at the moment.

“I’ve made it very clear that I’d like to see Luther come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther.”

The fifth season premiered in January 2019 and garnered rave reviews among viewers in the UK, although there has not been a hint of season six.

To be honest, it seems Elba and series creator Neil Cross had plans for a Luther film as far back as 2011. In fact, Elba hinted at it in 2018, when he told the UK newspaper Metro about a Luther film.

He said, “it will be more murder, more Volvos, more frowning Luther.” The potential film experience was also likened to a ‘thrilling ‘90s classics such as Seven and Along Came A Spider’.

“Essentially we just want to try and take it to a much bigger remit and scale and perhaps international as well.”

Enough with the subtle hints already. Fans are anticipating the film and cannot wait for an official announcement of Luther, the film.
