Many young Africans are rising above all odds to become great personalities and impacting lives within the continent and beyond.
27-years old Nigerian graduate of telecommunication and information technology from COSIT, TASUED, is one of such young champs poised to excel in the technology and innovation industry.
This young man saw a need to partner with people of like minds and they have innovated great projects together.
In three days, with 5 teams from 3 countries, the 27-year-old Oluwatobi Oyinlola designed a solar facility ‘Solar Pocha’ which aids one in working outside with solar power. It is an independent outdoor leisure workstation.
According to TASUED, Oluwatobi, otherwise called Tobi, realized that many people enjoy working outdoor but lack access to the internet and are confronted with the challenge of powering their electronic gadgets.
Thus, he and five other collaborators from South Korea, India and America built and designed the ‘Solar Pocha’.
Tobi and his partners created a mobile app for online booking, to know if Solar Pocha is open to use with GPS tracking.
Tobi is a tech speaker, an inventor and an embedded systems engineer. The tech guru is also an Internet of Things evangelist and a member of IoT Europe, as well as, an Intel software innovator.
He also works with rLoop as part of a team for Elon Musk’s Hyperloop project. The team built the flight control and the battery management system for Hyperloop, a high-speed transportation system that could have a speed range of 760mph, more than a plane which is 500mph.
In his dialogue with Okechukwu Matthew, Tobi said he and his team raised all their monies online to build the first Hyperloop prototype through crowdsourcing, and over the years, over $400,000 has been raised from different sponsors.
Earlier this year, the Nigerian inventor and entrepreneur revealed to CNBC Africa that he is working to reduce environmental pollution in Africa with his IoT technology that provides a pay-as-you-go method for cooking using LPG.
He said he plans to develop the system and donate to campuses in Nigeria and Africa at large.
In 2018, he ranked number 19 out of 100 in the list of most influential young Nigerians. He was featured representing Africa on World IoT Day. He won the Elon Musk SpaceX Hyperloop “Pod Innovation” Award.
