Kanye Boycott? This US radio station has banned Kanye West’s music

A radio station in the United States has banned music from Kanye West, in the wake of the rapper’s comments over slavery.

The Morning Bounce, a show on Detroit’s 105.1 station on May 3 decided to ban any music that Kanye has produced or written.

“We feel like Kanye has gone too far with his latest statement declaring that ‘slavery was a choice.’ We are over it. We don’t want to hear Kanye’s music, we don’t want to play Kanye on our show, we don’t want to talk about Kanye anymore,” the hosts said on the station’s Facebook page.

They are using the hashtag #MuteKanye to show their stance on the slavery comments.

“So we are taking a stand and we aren’t playing his music anymore; we just are refusing to give him a platform,” they added.

Kanye had come under fire for claiming that slavery was a choice.

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years … For 400 years? That sounds like a choice,” he said in an interview at TMZ.

The ban has been applied to the whole station.

The Detroit station was not the only one to make such a move. Hot 96 implied that the boycott of Kanye West has begun in a tweet.

There has also been a petition online that calls for the boycott of the rapper ‘until he gets a thorough mental evaluation and help.’

We will no longer tolerate his unbalanced thought process contaminating the energy of dedicated fans and young listeners. I ask all concerned and bothered hip-hop consumers to boycott Adidas, Def Jam, Kanye West music, fashion, merchandise and shows until his weirdo episodes are nonexistent and West brings the old Kanye back. Kanye West graduated from music asset, to a perfect example of how fame and wealth can make you forget your blackness and corrupt your basic moral values… Long story short, “Kanye West doesn’t care about black people,” the petition says.

The petition has already garnered 500 votes.
