Letitia Wright hospitalized following accident on ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ set

British-Guyanese actress Letitia Wright had to be hospitalized after she sustained injuries in a stunt rig accident while shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The Wednesday incident happened during filming in Boston, Variety reported.

“Letitia Wright sustained minor injuries today while filming a stunt for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ She is currently receiving care in a local hospital and is expected to be released soon,” a spokesperson for Marvel said in a statement.

Wright was later discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment, her representative told CNN on Thursday, adding that she is currently recovering.

The 27-year-old is reprising her role as Shuri, the talented inventor and sister of Wakandan king, T’Challa (formerly played by the late Chadwick Boseman). The production schedule for the highly anticipated movie sequel won’t be affected as a result of the accident.

Though there are little to no details about the Ryan Coogler-directed project, original cast members including Lupita Nyong’o, Daniel Kaluuya, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett are all expected to reprise their roles.

The sequel to the history-making and box-office hit movie will hit the theatres on July 8 next year.

In March, Wright paid a glowing and emotional tribute to Boseman on British Vogue, Face2Face Africa reported. In the feature, Wright said she met Boseman for the first time when she was auditioning for Black Panther in Los Angeles. The 27-year-old said she instantly established a connection with him though they had just met, and their relationship blossomed from there.

“From the moment we met, I loved Chadwick Boseman. I landed in Los Angeles in September 2016, called to audition for a Marvel Studios film that was to be directed by Ryan Coogler. It was clear this was a big deal,” she wrote.

“I was only 22 and incredibly nervous, but Chad – already cast as the lead – walked in with a smoothie, laid-back and cool. I heard God speak to my heart; that he would be my brother, and that I was to love him as such.”
