Meet the two Nigerian artistes representing Africa at Coachella 2019

The music scene in Africa is off to a good start in 2019. At the very end of 2018, several African musicians gave fans and critics a taste of the coming year by holding very successful concerts that kept fans and holidaymakers in good spirits on and off social media.

While few fans might still be basking in all the memories that came with attending Burna Boy’s concert in Nigeria or Mr Eazi’s in Ghana, the two Nigerians were announced as music acts for Coachella 2019 making them the only African musicians slated for the music festival.

The news quickly got the two acts trending all over social media a few hours after Coachella posted the line up for this year’s event happening in April at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.

The headlining news comes a few weeks after several debates about 2019 being the year for Mr Eazi and Burna Boy who are often described as some of the most underrated musicians in Africa.

Fans of the two have since taken to Twitter and Instagram to congratulate the musicians who posted their appreciation for a slot at one of America’s biggest outdoor music festivals.

This year’s Coachella is scheduled to take place between April 12 to 21 with over a 100 musicians slated to perform on selected days.

Mr Eazi’s Lagos to London tour bus will make a detour in the USA between April 13 and 21 to represent the continent and  give the audience  a feel of West African music as the popular musician with over 2 million followers across social media does a good blend of Ghana and Nigeria in culture and languages in his music. Mr Eazi will be sharing the stage with Tame Impala, Solange, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi and several other acts.

Burna Boy shares the stage with Ariana Grande, Khalid, YG, Pusha T, Gucci Gang and other acts on Sunday, April 14 and 21 closing this year’s Coachella event.

In 2018, 27-year-old Wizkid was the only African act enlisted to perform during the event at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California with the only other African person being South African Dj Black Coffee.

Wizkid was expected to share the stage with Beyonce which sent fans into an even bigger frenzy but unfortunately, the Nigerian act who had a great 2018 marked his inability to perform at Coachella as one of his lows of the year.

The Fever and Soco crooner was unable to attend the 2018 Coachella mainly due to Visa issues with his band leaving several fans very dissapointed.

With Mr Eazi and Burna Boy slated for this year’s festival, fans are expecting a stellar performance from the two and redemption from last year’s Wizkid no-show.
