The coronavirus pandemic has brought its own ups and downs. Many lost their jobs while others coined theirs during the lockdown. Some also got promoted on their old gigs. Ego Nwodim is celebrating her recent promotion from a featured act to a permanent slot on Saturday Night Live (SNL) for its 46th season, according to Deadline.
SNL usually promotes its features after its third year on the show but Nwodim, who is of Nigerian heritage, is a second-year feature. She has joined the show on its 44th season as officially a full cast member whose name will appear in opening credits.
Nwodim’s debut appearance was in 2018 which featured Kanye West as a musical guest and host Adam Driver. The Upright Citizens Brigade vet is best known for her repetitive enactment of L’evanka in the Empire-inspired political satire Them Trumps.
According to TV Line, she got her biggest debut in February as an original character, Dr. Angie Hynes, who is an African-American Studies professor, in a Weekend Update segment focused on Black History Month.
Some of her impressions include former Spice Girl and America’s Got Talent judge Mel B. The show has been having its “At Home” editions since March when the coronavirus pandemic hit the world and studios had to shut down.
Currently, discussions are ongoing to ensure a safe return to the studios, and the new season of the show, which Nwodim will make her debut as a permanent cast, is yet to be announced.
