What is ombré?
Ombré (adjective om·bré \ˈäm-ˌbrā\) – having colors or tones that shade in to each other.
I promise after seeing my five easy steps, you’ll be able to have fun and do your own ombre lip. Let’s get started!
Step 1:
It’s important to start out right! I like to moisturize my lips with a lip conditioner or a lip balm. I’m using Carmex (pictured) lip balm with my fingers.
Beauty Tip: At least once a week, you should exfoliate your lips. Here’s a quick DIY recipe; most items you probably have in your cupboards.
– A tablespoon of brown sugar or white sugar
– A dash of honey (just enough to make the sugar really stick together) OR a bit of olive oil/coconut oil
– A teeny tiny little drop of vanilla (it makes it smell good, but isn’t necessary.)
– A small container
Mix all of the ingredients until you get a sticky consistency and store in your small container. Once or twice per week, rub the scrub on to your lips vigorously enough to loosen the dead skin. Let it sit for 1 minute, then wipe off with a damp washcloth. Apply lip balm after use.
Step 2:
Use a dark liner to line or trace the inner edge of your lips. I used Lydia Lip Liner from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, because it looks more berry on me.
Step 3:
Next, use a brown lip liner. I’m using NYX Collection Chocolate Satin Finish Brown Eyeliner. Trace just the inner corner of your lip, and no, it’s not a typo; you can use eyeliner on your lips!
Step 4:
Apply a glossy color to fill in the center of your lips that complements the lip liner you used in the second step. I decided to use NYX Butter Gloss; it’s light pink with a hint of beige on my complexion.
Step 5:
I finish off the look by using a matte Lip Tar, Covet by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.
Note: Everything I used, I grabbed from one of my favorites beauty stores: Ricky’s NYC!
I’d love to see what colors you put together for your ombre look. If you have a beauty question or would like to have a product reviewed, please send a beauty note to rj@renardajoynyc.com. Remember you can always find me on Twitter or Instagram @rjnybeauty!
Lastly, I want to thank each of you for taking the time to read “The Truth On The State Of Beauty” last week and for sharing on your various social platforms. My hope is to continue the dialogue and to send a message to our beauty makers that #BrownIsBeautiful!
Until next time, stay beautiful!
Xoxo ~RJ
