Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o among most dangerous celebrities online. Here’s why

McAfee has found award-winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o among one of the “most” dangerous celebrities online.

The Us and 12 Years A Slave star placed fifth on the computer security software company’s list of celebrities whom a click of their photographs and videos online are more likely to expose fans to malicious websites and viruses.

Actress Alexis Bledel of Gilmore Girls tops the list. Referred to as a “good girl” and “bookworm” in her role in Gilmore Girls and Netflix’s sequel Gilmore Girls: A Year in the LifeBledel was found to be the most dangerous celebrity by McAfee.

The host of a talk show named Late Late Night, James Corden, occupies the second spot. Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner is third, followed by actress Anna Kendrick and Lupita Nyong’o.

The rests are SNL and talk show star Jimmy Fallon, 6, martial arts master Jackie Chan, 7, rapper and musician Lil Wayne, 8, Nicki Minaj,9, and finally Marvel actress Tessa Thompson.

“The truth is consumers are faced with endless options to feed their obsession with celebrities. They are interacting with content across multiple devices and conducting potentially dangerous searches across the internet to find the latest information or gossip without fear of consequence.

“For cybercriminals, this creates a field day to lure unsuspecting consumers to malicious websites that may install malware or steal personal information and passwords,” McAfee said in a statement.

To avoid being duped into accessing malicious files or contents McAfee urged “consumers to learn to protect their digital lives from lurking cybercriminals by thinking twice before they click on suspicious links or download content.”

Meanwhile, Nyong’o is set to play a Nigerian character in her passion project Americanah, based on the best-selling novel by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

HBO Max has ordered a limited series based on the 2013 book, and celebrated actress Danai Gurira, who has written the series pilot, will serve as showrunner of the 10-episode series, according to Variety.

Acclaimed actress Nyong’o, who is the daughter of a Kenyan politician, said: “‘Americanah’ has been a passion project for me since I read Chimamanda’s beautiful novel in 2013.”

Adichie’s ‘Americanah’ is a powerful, tender story of race and identity and is centered around two young lovers, Ifemelu and Obinze who depart military-ruled Nigeria in search of better fortunes in the West.

The heroine, Ifemelu, heads for America, where she is forced to grapple with what it means to be Black for the first time.

Not able to travel to the United States to be with her, Obinze finds his way to London, where he lives for several years as an undocumented immigrant. Nearly two decades later, the two reunite back home in Nigeria and re-ignite their undying love and passion.

Americanah’ will be the fourth project that Nyong’o and Gurira will be working on together. The two have already appeared in Black PantherAvengers: Endgame, as well as, in Gurira’s play Eclipsed.
