Rihanna is expanding her fashion empire into the metaverse

Barbadian singer Rihanna has made a name for herself not only in music but also in the fashion industry. Indeed, $1.3 billion of her $1.7 billion net worth comes from her fashion brand, Fenty.

After conquering the physical world, the richest female musician in the world wants to now establish her brand in the metaverse. According to multiple media reports, the singer has filed for a new batch of trademark applications to offer her company’s cosmetics and products in a “virtual” format in the metaverse.

“Rihanna has filed a new trademark application indicating that she will offer “virtual” cosmetics and hair care products under her FENTY brand. Coming to a virtual world near you soon,” U.S. trademark attorney Josh Gerben tweeted.

The pop star specifically filed a trademark for Fenty Hair on March 3, and it covered various products like hair color, straightening products, styling products, relaxing, and waving products.

Rihana will join a growing list of celebrities who have entered the metaverse either in The Sandbox or Decentraland to bring their music or products closer to their fans or customers who cannot physically attend their stores or concerts.

In 2017, Rihanna founded Fenty Beauty in her bid to create a cosmetic company that made “women everywhere (feel) included” in partnership with luxury goods company LVMH.

The cosmetic line initially sold foundation shades and later expanded to include lipstick, lip gloss, body glitter, and more. In its first year of operation, Fenty Beauty generated more than $550 million.

In 2019, Rihanna became the first Black woman to create a clothing brand for LVMH called Fenty and also announced new high-end clothing, shoes, and accessories. In 2020, she debuted on Forbes’ list of richest self-made women in America. The following year, Forbes reported that she is worth $1.7 billion, making her the wealthiest female musician in the world.
