Women

Shocking misogynistic quotes by iconic scholars who lived centuries ago

Feminism or campaigns like #HeforShe and #MeToo do not bring pleasant memories to the minds of many. For several people, a woman who identifies as a feminist is radical and fighting for a space in the world of men that cannot exist and is one that men would as much as possible like to avoid interacting or dealing with.

The turn of the 21st century has given women the chance to speak out and be given equal opportunities to men that prove that they are capable of great things if given the chance. Although the progress is slow, day in and out, many are beginning to understand the need for equality and for women to fight for a place on every important table in society.

History is an important tool to help people understand present situations and reactions that sensitive issues such as feminism bring to the minds of people. Its relevance in black history cannot be emphasised the more and now history shows how women have been sidelined by men of all walks of life from the past.

Several people are digging out information that not only proves how women have been sidelined but how they are regarded and thought of by the opposite sex. In a tweet that exposed several damning quotes about women, Twitter user @mochivous stated that Charles Darwin in his book The Descent of Men wrote “males were more evolutionarily advanced than females” and that Aristotle believed women were inferior and described them as “deformed males”. Here are 8 quotes by powerful men who lived centuries ago that prove how long women have been disregarded.
