A deaf and mute rapper from Congo, MC Baba, has pushed the limits and redefined the meaning that disability does not necessarily mean inability. The internet sensation has gone viral with his unique rap style.
The rapper is seen in a music video where he uses unique rap sounds instead of words.
MC Baba’s music videos have gained immense popularity on platforms like TikTok, where fans are calling him the “Greatest Rapper Alive.” His innovative rap style has drawn comparisons to artists like Ghana’s Shatta Wale and Puerto Rican Bad Bunny.
Some X users were full of praise for his unique approach, stating “Baba does it like nobody else.” His track “Biso Love” has particularly captivated netizens, amassing thousands of views and likes.
“Many people here don’t get it. He makes the sound vocals and the backup knows when to come in. It means he is rapping, whatever you hear is up to you,” @Acjdubains wrote.
“Most lyrical rapper I’ve heard in a long time,” @EdwinSeymour5 added.
“The fact that he speaks the language eloquently, without stress and steeze makes it top tier. Def jam really have to jam this def,” @dnd_Gabe also wrote.
He has been described as the first deaf rapper from Congo, according to India Times. However, not all responses about MC Baba have been positive. Some netizens criticized his soundtracks for not meeting rap standards, generating the creation of memes.
They suggested his videos are more suited for cringe-worthy entertainment rather than serious music appreciation.
Deaf rap is an emerging genre in the music space, but, there are some stars making waves with this rap style. The likes of Warren Snipes, Sean Forbes, and Mark Vuorheimo are blowing up in this category.
Snipes has labeled this style of rap as dip hop where the artist is helping people live through the deaf culture. For deaf individuals, music is a sensory experience that involves visualizing through sign language and feeling sound vibrations.
In Kenya, deaf artist Lal Daggy discovered his love for music while in secondary school. There, he won several music competitions and began following the works of artists like Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg. Releasing several singles, Daggy’s break came after the release of his hit song “Story ya Machampion” (The story of champions) where he tells the world his journey of courage.
