Social media reacts to video of young girl cursing at officers questioning her mom over shoplifting

There were mixed reactions on social media to a young girl’s outbursts after a video showed her cursing at police officers who had detained her mother over an alleged shoplifting incident. 

Per the New York Daily News, the NYPD officers were investigating an alleged theft of expensive sunglasses from a plush SoHo boutique on Saturday. The minor who confronted the officers over her mother’s detainment was said to be about 8 years old.

“What the f–k is your mother f-ing problem!” the agitated girl is heard saying as the officers surround her mother and question her. The minor is also later seen telling a bystander to stop recording the incident, but her mother tells the individual to keep recording for her “safety.”

The minor was with her mother and another woman when they were stopped by police. Employees at the boutique had initially informed authorities that two women had entered the shop and stolen a pair of $360 Moncler sunglasses before making their way out. 

In the video, the minor is heard telling the officers that her “aunt stole glasses.”  “It wasn’t her. Do she have a f**king white t-shirt on? NO! NO,” the girl is heard saying in reference to the suspect’s description. “On my soul, leave my mother alone. On my dead father, she don’t have nothing.”

Elsewhere in the video, the minor’s mother is heard telling the officers she did not steal the sunglasses. Her emotional daughter is also seen walking around. “I’m going to kill somebody, ma!” the girl is heard yelling. “I’m going to find somebody and punch them in the face!”

An officer is later seen trying to calm the girl after she sits, but she stands up and yells at the officers again. “Leave my mother alone before it be a motherf-ing problem!” she says.

The girl is seen crying after her mother is ultimately placed in handcuffs and put in the police car. Her mother is also seen calming her down. 

Police arrested the girl’s 27-year-old aunt in connection with the theft, the New York Daily News reported. She has since been charged with petit larceny, failure to exercise control over a minor and criminal possession of stolen property. She was subsequently arraigned and released without bail.

Police also said the girl was handed over to a family member after her mother and aunt were arrested. The video, which went viral, received mixed reactions on social media.

“That’s a lot of trauma in that little body 💔,” a user commented on The Shade Room. “The child needs therapy frfr… this isn’t even funny,” another user said.

“She said ‘on my dead father’ which means mama is all she got I need respect in these comments 💯,” a user also said. “The young girls language is seemingly very advanced and adult. She has seen too much … sad,” another user commented. 

Other users also begged to differ. “Girl be quiet & stay in a child’s place…. This isn’t cute and her mama just letting her cut up 😒😒😒,” a user commented. “Lets stop normalizing & giving children a reason to speak disrespectful & act out of control,” another user wrote.
