Officer Robin Conner was apprehended and detained following an alleged incident of theft from Dick’s Sporting Goods while wearing her uniform.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Police Chief Joseph Daughtry stated that the 33-year-old, who has been a police officer with the Columbus Police Force for two years, was on duty when she allegedly stole a pair of $140 tennis shoes from the retailer last Wednesday.

Officers were summoned to Dick’s Sporting Goods in Columbus in the afternoon following the theft when a staff member caught Conner in the act and prevented her from leaving the store with the shoes.

Chief Daughtry, who was among the officers who responded to the crime, told The Columbus Dispatch, “We’re putting her in jail. It’s embarrassing for the department, but we’re going to treat her like we would anybody else.”

After that, Conner was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting for taking items valued under $1,000. She was arrested and booked into the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center after being taken to jail in the police vehicle she was operating at the time of the incident.

The ex-cop was issued $862 surety bail and placed on administrative leave while the investigation continued.

Nevertheless, WTVA reports that a day later, the Columbus City Council collectively voted to fire her.

The average salary of a police officer in Columbus, Mississippi, is $56,000 a year, per ZipRecruiter.
