Black Girls Code
Founded by Kimberly Bryant – an electrical engineer in 2011, Black Girls Code or BGC aims to teach computer coding to young black ladies from disadvantaged communities. Bryant was inspired to form BGC after being disillusioned by the lack of African-Americans in her engineering program.
BGC provides training via workshops and after-school programs.
BGC goal is to “provide African-American youth with the skills to occupy some of the 1.4 million computing job openings expected to be available in the U.S. by 2020, and to train 1 million girls by 2040.”
