This photographer’s beautiful reimagination of Disney princesses has got the internet talking

Who’s your favorite Disney character and have you ever reimagined him/her in your skin color?

The admiration of some of the animation platform’s known characters among children isn’t a hidden fact. Irrespective of the era you were born, it is highly likely you had a favorite Disney animation and character. Even till date, there are kids who still can’t get enough of Cinderella, Hercules, Snow White, Alladin, etc, just like we couldn’t back in the day.

The addition of even more diverse characters in recent times makes us all – both young and old – even more spoilt for choice.

Proving you’re never too old to continue admiring your favorite animation characters and also inspiring kids to be confident in their skin is Symone Seven. The Atlanta-based photographer, who has been reimagining some of Disney’s most adored princesses and sharing the amazing end results on her Instagram, has deservedly gone viral.

Her first reimagination, which was of Cinderella, was well-received with some parents reportedly revealing how it inspired their daughters. Speaking to Good Morning America, Seven opened up about the idea behind her series.

“This photo series began with me wanting to pay homage to one of my childhood favorites which were Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘Cinderella’ musical featuring Brandy, Whitney Houston and a culturally diverse cast,” she said. “I would request to watch that movie daily as my mom intentionally raised me in a culturally enriched environment.”

“As an adult, I found that my experience was uncommon, and I wanted to create those positive images for others that I was afforded.”

Seven initially wanted the series to coincide with the release of Mulan’s live-action remake in March but it was postponed due to the coronavirus. That, however, did not stop her from going ahead as she restrategized and it paid off.

“The numbers are great but nothing compares to seeing the real stories people share with me in response,” she said. “I’ve had children get so excited to see a princess that looks like them — with brown skin and hair kinky like theirs.”

Take a look at the amazing end results below and be sure to keep an eye on her page for more:
