The Mandé people are a myriad of languages and people who can be found in Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Chad, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
The Mandé people of Upper Guinea were taken for inclusion in the trade in the 16th century. European merchants used business as a vantage point in capturing and selling slaves.
By the mid-19th century, the French had overtaken Guinea which led to the formation of the Republic of Guinea.
The Republic of Guinea gained their independence on October 2, 1958.
