Africa has far less natural disaster zones than other parts of the world but this does not make it totally free from such hazards that can cause great damage. While some of the popular disasters are endemic diseases, drought, floods, agricultural pests and bushfires, many African countries, also experience earthquakes.
Because of their location, several countries in West and Central Africa are not susceptible to earthquakes. However, other African countries have experienced severe earthquakes leading to loss of lives and destruction of property, with Eastern and Southern Africa located at the most prone areas.
