U.S. will make Africa great again with Nigeria’s help – Nigerian governor implies

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and the U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday expressed their commitment to working together on economic engagement, political stability and counter-terrorism.

The meeting between the two leaders has since been hailed by some quarters, and the latest one is coming from a state Governor in Nigeria, Yahaya Bello.

According to the Kogi State Governor, the current meeting between the two presents “massive opportunities” for the U.S. and Nigeria, and Africa as a whole.

“Nigeria is the hope of Africa with her market, human and mineral resources. A superpower like the United States will no doubt find in Nigeria, a viable partner to deepen Africa’s prosperity through technology and agriculture.

“For a long time, US has been pessimistic about Nigeria. Corruption has been one of the biggest barriers between the two nations. But with President Muhammadu Buhari at the helms of affairs of Africa’s biggest nation, America is beginning to see a partner in anti-corruption and fight against poverty,” the Governor said this in a statement cited by local media Vanguard.

Buhari and Trump

He believed the historic visit of President Buhari would improve agriculture and ensure food security, specifically in Kogi State which is a leading agricultural destination in Nigeria.

Nigeria has over the years been a strong ally of the United States. Being the country with one of the largest economy and population in Africa, Nigeria is believed to have a huge influence on the continent.

Some believe that the success or failure of the continent depends on how stable – both economically and politically, and secured Nigeria is.

Here’s how people are reacting to the Governor’s comments:
