The first Pan African meeting ever organised was held in Accra, Ghana in 1958. Called the All-African People’s Conference, it was organised by Kwame Nkrumah. Among the countries that attended the meeting were Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Sudan.
Some of the issues discussed included the final assault on colonialism, use of non-violent means in agitating for independence, the formation of a permanent secretariat to handle national issues to help the achievement of independence as well as the condemnation of racism and tribalism and especially apartheid in South Africa.
They also discussed a union of Africa or the Commonwealth of African states at this meeting.
