“You ain’t black” – Three reasons why Joe Biden knows his recent gaffe on race won’t hurt him

In a virtual interview with radio show host Charlamagne tha God, presumptive winner of the Democratic presidential primaries, Joe Biden, said if anyone had to weigh between him and Donald Trump in November, “then you ain’t black”.

Last Friday, on his popular “The Breakfast Club” radio show, Charlamagne spoke to Biden about what would be different for black people if the former Delaware senator became president.

For all the flak he gets, Charlamagne did press Biden. At certain points in the conversation, the man who wanted to be president seemed tense and uncomfortable with what he had to answer.

“You’ve got more questions? Well I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” Biden replied. His aides would later scramble to rework what had been heard insisting that Biden was making a joke, while reminding everyone who had only recently won black-heavy Democratic primaries by record margins.

But this joke, if it was really one, did not land well and it has been criticized by even those who have said they are going to vote for Biden. But for what it’s worth, Biden would not lose sleep over this gaffe.

Here’s why:
