Well, it seems like this Jamaican lottery winner took a cue and some inspiration from American wrestler John Cena’s favourite and highly popular quote “you can’t see me”.
After winning well over $180 million Jamaican dollars (1 million USD), the woman, identified as N. Gray showed up in a colourful dashiki ensemble with her face covered in a hilarious winking emoji mask to claim her prize.
According to Jamaica Star, the high crime rate in Jamaica caused Gray to hide her face to protect her and also her family from being targeted and possibly robbed.
“Unfortunately, Jamaica is not like other markets. In other markets, they don’t necessarily do it, but here I think they opt to do it to keep themselves safe. We are not going to tell them not to do that because their safety is of paramount importance to us as well,” Simone Clarke-Cooper, assistant vice-president of Group Corporate Communications at Supreme Ventures Limited (the lottery company) told Jamaica Star.
Despite hiding her face, Gray, however, could not hide her emotions and excitement at becoming the newest millionaire in Jamaica.
“God allowed this to happen. I am elated because I was drowning in debt. I started buying Super Lotto in January, and I normally choose random numbers,” she told Jamaican news platform The Gleaner.
“I am employed, but I am not necessarily going to leave my job. Now I’ve won, I want to clear my debt, invest, and I want to do some travelling. I would like to construct a community centre for the youth in my community, so they can engage in something productive; somewhere where they can do information technology,” she added.
