Ol Doinyo Lengai
Found in Tanzania and 7,650–foot-tall, Ol Doinyo Lengai is known to the Masai of Tanzania as the “Mountain of God”. It is the only active volcano to belch out lava rich with a rare type of rock called carbonatite, according to National Geographic. This means the temperatures of these lavas are much lower, only about 600 Degrees Celsius. Lengai’s lava does not emit enough light to glow during the day. Due to its odd chemical composition, the lava is extremely fluid and behaves very much like water, with the exception that it is black as oil. After it is cooled down, it quickly alters and becomes a whitish powder.
