Tsitsi Dangarembga – Zimbabwe
Tsitsi Dangaremba is well-known for her works in African literature being the first black woman from Zimbabwe to write a novel in English when she was 25 years old. Aside from writing, Tsitsi is also an outstanding filmmaker who attended German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. Venturing into an industry at the time when there was practically no women in the field, Tsitsi pioneered female filmmaking in Zimbabwe and a larger extent, Africa. With her success in the industry, Tsitsi went on to establish Nuyerai Films, a film production company, and the International Images Film Festival in 2002.
