Entertainment in whatever form – whether pre-colonial or not, has always been with humankind. There might be little documentation on these forms of entertainment but there is no denying the fact that they actually did exist.
Colonialism too did come with its own share of entertainment. There are the famous games such as soccer (football), boxing, basketball, tennis, athletics, netball, handball, and all the other major sporting activities that make up our lives today.
But it is intriguing and curious enough to explore what kinds of sports existed pre-colonial days. If not all the sports we enjoy today were introduced after colonialism, then which ones existed in Africa before they first came onto our shores?
