2 Cameroonian Wrestlers Go Missing in Glasgow Ahead of Commonwealth Games

The Cameroon squad are currently preparing for the Games in Aberdeen.

With the 2014 Commonwealth Games set to start on July 23 in Glasgow, already there are reports that two Cameroonian wrestlers have gone missing from training camp, according to the Guardian.

The unnamed men, who are 26 and 31 years old, respectively, were with the Cameroonian pre-Commonwealth Games camp that are taking place in Aberdeen. By Sunday, though, the pair vanished, with the disappearance being reported by Tuesday.

The Guardian reports:

One of the missing men is 5ft 8in and was wearing a black jumper and trousers, a white body warmer and a black woolly hat.

The other man is around 5ft 4in and of thin build with a prominent scar on his left cheek, police said. He was wearing sports clothing when last seen.

In addition, a police spokeswoman said, “Police Scotland can confirm that two men have been reported as missing from the Aberdeen area. Both, one aged 31 and one aged 26, were reported missing from the Old Aberdeen area of Aberdeen just after midday on Tuesday.

“They were last seen at the Hillhead Halls of Residence on Don Street, Aberdeen, at around 8.30 p.m. on Sunday 13 July.”

Authorities are asking the public to notify Aberdeen police if the men are sighted.

But this is not the first time Cameroonians have gone missing at an international competition. During the 2012 London Olympics, the West and Central African country made headlines, when seven athletes (five boxers, a female football player, and a swimmer) disappeared from the athletes’ village.

When some of them were later interviewed, they complained about bonuses and treatment from officials.
