Eric Garner Family Dedicates ‘This Ends Today’ Song to Him

In July, unarmed Staten Island, New York resident Eric Garner (pictured) died, after being put in a chokehold by White police officer Daniel Pantaleo. Now his daughter, Erica Garner, and brother, Steven Flagg, have come together to produce “This Ends Today,” a rap song dedicated to their beloved family member.

Garner’s death came on the heels of the high-profile murder of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was also killed by a White police officer, Darren Wilson, in Ferguson, Mo.

Months later, even though Garner’s death would be officially ruled a homicide, a grand jury would decide to not indict Pantaleo for the Father of six’s untimely demise.

As a way to cope with the loss and keep Garner’s unjust murder on people’s minds, Erica and Flagg created “This Ends Today.” Of the rap song, the stay-at-home 24-year-old Mother said, “It just came from the heart. It’s the first time I ever recorded. We want to get it out there on the radio, anywhere, so as many people as possible hear it.”

The song gets its title from Garner who said, after being confronted by police, “New York’s Finest (the moniker for New York police), this ends today.” Garner can also be heard on the track saying his last words, “I can’t breathe,” with parts of Rev. Al Sharpton’s eulogy interwoven throughout.
