Hi, Beauties! I’m getting used to having each of you around. I want to say thank you to the recent e-mails I received from some of you with beauty-related questions. I promise I’ll answer each of your e-mails in upcoming articles. I had a fun-filled weekend that I thought you’d love to hear about. Do you remember Vanessa Williams from the TV series “Soul Food”? Well, I had the opportunity to sit and chat with the lovely beauty maven, actress and beauty ambassador, when I attended the second annual Family Dollar Fabulous event.

This event was more than fab and was hosted by Williams in New York City at the Midtown Manhattan Hilton. Some of the attendees included the cast of “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” Cynthia Bailey, Ebony Magazine, Upscale Magazine, top beauty bloggers and vloggers. and Face2Face Africa.
Family Dollar is a discounted store offering an assortment of health and beauty products, catering to African-American consumers. Family Dollar currently has more than 8,000 stores throughout the United States, particularly in low-income neighborhoods.
I grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, and I can remember Family Dollar being my first make-up store. I loved the fact that they catered to us brown-skinned girls with their choice of complimentary colors and affordable prices.
When I first arrived, I immediately had the opportunity to test and learn more about different beauty products that Family Dollar carries. Several tables were set up with demos and of course they gave out lots of goodies!
Next, we were ushered in to a cocktail reception room that was more than an average soiree! The room was filled with beauty, cocktails, food, and great conversations — what more can you ask for?
We were then given another great treat: a mini-fashion show, showcasing Family Dollars 2015 Spring Collection, and I fell in love with several pieces.
As the night came to an end, I was able to catch up with Williams and ask her a quick question as she was leaving the room. I asked Williams what’s her secret to staying youthful and looking fresh.
“There isn’t a secret; it’s all about staying true to yourself and finding a balance,” Williams said. “It’s important to find balance in eating right, having beautiful thoughts, being surrounded by beautiful people, and letting the inside radiate on the outside.”
We think Family Dollar made a great choice of having Williams as their Beauty Ambassador; she’s such a beautiful person both inside and out!
