Unlike food, make-up companies aren’t mandated to list expiration dates. So it’s important to clean out your make-up arsenal to ensure that they deliver the intensity its promised to deliver. Today, Face2Face Africa will share with you what you need to get rid of that’s past its expiration date. Keep in mind the expiration date begins the moment you open a product or when you break the seal.

When you see your foundation has separated into layers or the color has lightened, it’s time to buy a new one! Tip: Keep makeup out of sunlight. UV rays can destroy preservatives, which will make your products spoil faster.
Liquid and cream foundation 2 years
Concealer 2 years
Powder 2 years
If you notice clumps before the expiration date, it’s time to get rid of your mascara. Tip: Never pump the wand in and out the tube, by doing this you pump air inside the tube, which causes the mascara to get dried out. Also, if you’re sharing your mascara, always use a disposable wand.
Mascara 6 months
Is your favorite lipstick dry or sticky instead of glossy? This is a clear indicator that it’s gone bad. Tip: When you’re testing a new color at the make-up counter, never apply the lipstick directly to your lips. Always use a disposable wand.
Lipstick 12 to 18 months (12 months for Lip gloss)
Lip and eye pencils 12 to 18 months
Once you notice your eye shadow is dry and flaky, it’s time to get a new one. Tip: What should I do if my favorite eye shadow falls and breaks into pieces? Don’t fret! Salvage what you can and place it back in to the container and then spray with rubbing alcohol (just enough to get it a little moist). With a clean quarter coin, smash the eye shadow with the quarter. In a few hours, your eye shadow will be molded back into the container as if nothing ever happened.

Embryolisse is one of my favorite face creams. I use it on myself and my clients. A change in color or scent is an indicator to get rid of your face cream. Tip: For minimum coverage, try adding a few drops of your foundation to your face cream to create your very own tint moisturizer.
