Florida man stole girlfriend’s engagement ring to propose to another woman: police

A Florida man is being sought after by authorities for a slew of theft allegations including stealing one of his girlfriend’s engagement ring and using it to propose to another woman he was also romantically involved with.

According to a Facebook statement by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Joseph Davis, met the women on the dating app OKCupid in 2015 and 2016, New York Post reported. Davis, who is currently on the run, allegedly used two aliases and was known as “Joe Brown” to one girlfriend and “Marcus Brown” to the other.

One of the women in question – an Orange City resident – told authorities she got to know her boyfriend was actually engaged to another woman after doing some digging up on Facebook. She said while browsing through her “rival’s” page on the social media platform, she saw a photo of her wearing an engagement ring and wedding band that looked similar to what she owned from a previous marriage.

The victim said when she subsequently checked her jewelry box, she realized her rings, as well as other items totaling about $6,270, were missing. She said she however managed to reach out to Davis’ fiancée and got some of her stolen items back. After uncovering Davis’s cheating shenanigans and alleged theft, which the second woman also fell victim to, both ladies teamed up and reported him to authorities. The second woman told authorities she realized her laptop and other jewelry were missing after Davis moved out of her Orlando apartment.

The fiancée also revealed Davis even went as far as taking her to the home of his Orange City girlfriend while she was away at work and claiming that was his property. He also asked her to move to the home and join him.

“She [second girlfriend] told detectives she packed up her apartment, disassembled her furniture and was ready to move until one day, he told her the deal fell through,” the statement said.

Authorities said Davis is also separately wanted for a hit and run incident in Oregon and has also been previously arrested for filing a false police report, domestic assault, possession of cocaine and possession of a fake ID.

He is facing a felony charge of grand theft for the recent incident involving his former love interests. “Please everyone share this. My sister is the victim in Orland [sic] that was proposed to. He is now making threats to our family,” a person claiming to be the brother of the Orlando woman commented on the Facebook post, New York Post reported.
