Talented singers, dancers, and entertainers living in French-speaking countries in Africa now have their own platform to showcase their skills following the launch of the French edition of the “Africa’s Got Talent” TV show. According to the BBC, the francophone version of the show is called “l’Afrique a un Incroyable.” Open auditions for the show were held between May and August in Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast.
Beninois music legend and three time Grammy Award-winner, Angelique Kidjo, is expected to head a three-person panel of judges that includes Congolese music sensation, Fally Ipupa, and Ivorian actress, Claudia Tagbo.
The show, which targets French speaking Africa, is expected to receive most of its viewership from the French speaking parts of West Africa. North African TV audiences have their own Arabic version of the show, while Nigeria and South Africa both enjoy local spin-offs, with the South African version launching in 2009.
The “Got Talent” TV talent reality show franchise began as “Britain Got Talent” in 2005 as a general talent reality show conceived by entertainment entrepreneur Simon Cowell. The show has since spawned several spin-offs, with franchise versions in at least 58 other countries.
The winner of the “l’Afrique a un Incroyable” talent show will go home with $20,000. More than 200 entertainers who believe they have what it takes to come out top, will be competing for the prize money.
