NEW TALENT SPOT Paves Way for Next Generation of Fashion Design Entrepreneurs at Ghana Fashion & Design Week

Accra, 29 Sept 2015 – Ghana Fashion & Design Week® (GFDW) is pleased to welcome to its NEW TALENT SPOT™ (NTS) initiative space and three budding new graduate talents: Julia Shika Odamtten (Womenswear), Radiant Jackson (Menswear), and Michael Kofi Owusu (Menswear) from Radford University College (RUC) in Ghana. The trio were selected for their outstanding efforts in creative fashion design discipline, having completed their Bachelor of Arts degree education this year.

The anticipated GFDW event will be held at Kempinski Hotel Accra on October 23 to 25 and will feature the selected graduates alongside the 2014 elected graduate Designer Afua Biney who is currently in development at the space to advance her business in the industry as she sets off to become a new creative entrepreneur fully supported by GFDW under its New Talent Spot™ (NTS) initiative space.

The Graduates, who have been under the carefully managed and capable hands of Mrs. Yvonne Ntiamoah, HOD of the Fashion Design Department during their time at RUC, are excited to be granted the unique opportunity of business development support at the NTS initiative space.

Ntiamoah says, “It is truly uplifting to see a new wave of creative talents graduating with the right skills to propel them further in their chosen career, and indeed very exciting to see that all efforts made are gradually yielding fruitful results as we continue to move forward in creating the next generation of industry savvy fashion designers equipped with the right knowledge of fashion as a business that can lead to a successful and fulfilling career in Ghana and Africa if approached and guided well.”

Whilst Ntiamoah’s statements echo our vision and mission at the New Talent Spot™ initiative space, we also congratulate Papa Oppong, who is one of the recent fashion graduates at RUC this year whose creative talent was also nurtured under Ntiamoah, earning him the opportunity to be selected to join Macy’s fashion incubator in the USA for an external industry experience beyond Ghana.

This year, the one to watch at the NTS initiative space will be Afua Biney’s eponymous collection and brand, which will be launched at the fashion week event.

NTS is equally proud of all the fashion design graduates this year at RUC. Their work will be on display at the New Talent Spot™ curated space during GFDW 2015 event (23 – 25 OCT). We encourage all aspiring creative talents to seek the needed education, skills, and know-how to be well-equipped for their career journey in to the global fashion business industry.

As a leading innovative platform, NTS is encouraged to explore new ideas for fashion and creative business development in Ghana and create opportunities that will drive successful industry experience for nascent graduate talents in transit from higher education into their future careers as creative business entrepreneurs.

GFDW 2015 event is supported by its renowned sponsors and media partners, including Mercedes-Benz, Silver Star Auto Ltd.
