The addition of an economical bus system has not quelled the road congestion in Kampala.

Traffic can get so dense that those on their motorcycles end up getting off their bikes and walking to their destination – because it saves more time.

Some riders take three hours to get to work and three hours to arrive home, as explained by a family residing in Kira.

The traffic jams are not only a nuisance, but they are also costly. $800 million is being calculated as the deficit in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) due to road congestion, as documented by a world bank study and reported by New Vision.

Increased urbanization, unreliable public transport, thoughtless use of roads and illegal formulation of homes and businesses are the reasons being stated for the massive traffic problems.
