African football is going through tough times, considering recent governance and corruption issues that have engulfed the sports on the continent. This week, FIFA, the world’s football governing body, in an unprecedented move, took over management of the game on the continent as African football executives seem to be unable to deal with the many issues that have cropped up in recent times.
The decision, which came on the eve of the kickoff of the Africa Cup of Nations, was seen as a surprise by many. In spite of these difficulties, there is no denying the fact that the continent has produced talented players who are doing so well in Europe top leagues as compared to players from South America, Asia, and North America.
Most of these African players could be placed among the most valuable players in the world.
As Africa kickstarts this year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament this Friday, here are some of the continent’s expensive players who have made some of the record-breaking transfer deals in recent times.
