The 91st Academy Awards (Oscars) took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night with some of our favorite black actors/ actresses and movie makers writing their names in the history books.

Regina King took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk and delivered a very moving and emotional acceptance speech.
Ruth Carter became the first black woman to win an Oscar for costume design for Black Panther.
Still in the Wakanda mood, Hannah Beachler also became the first black woman to win an Oscar for Best Production Design in Black Panther.
Taking home the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Green Book, Mahershala Ali became the first black actor to win this award twice after clinching the first in 2017 (he made history that year by becoming the first Muslim and black actor to win an award in the aforementioned category).
One of the highlights of the night was legendary Director Spike Lee finally winning an Oscar. Though he missed out on Best Director, the 61-year-old clinched his first competitive Oscar for best adapted screenplay for BlacKkKlansman.
