Embattled actor Jonathan Majors will be honored with the Perseverance Award at the fourth annual Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards in Los Angeles on June 21, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The awards show announcing Majors as one of its honorees comes after he was convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. The Creed III actor, who was convicted in April, however, avoided jail time as a judge sentenced him to a 52-week in-person domestic violence program. The 34-year-old has also kept a low radar for some time and made minimal public appearances.
The Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards explains that the Perseverance Award is “given to an individual who has shown that no matter what adversity they face, they will continue to aspire to inspire.”
Majors opting to attend the event could see him delivering an acceptance speech. Other celebrities announced as honorees for this year’s event include Cardi B, fellow rapper Fat Joe and civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump.
The organization on its website explains that the Impact Awards “were created to honor influencers, celebrities and icons who have made a lasting effect on the culture.” This year’s event will be hosted by Eritrean-American comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Majors faced a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail, but the Manhattan district attorney’s office did not seek jail time. His conviction also came after a judge dismissed an appeal to toss his assault and harassment conviction and acquit him of the charges, Deadline reported.
In December, the former Marvel actor was found guilty of assaulting his former girlfriend Jabbari. Majors was arrested last March in New York after Jabbari, who is also a British choreographer, accused him of attacking and injuring her.
But Majors has maintained his innocence. Majors was found guilty of one count of assault and one count of harassment but was acquitted of another count of assault and one aggravated harassment count.
Although Majors has been spared jail time, the repercussions of his guilty verdict have already impacted him beyond the courtroom. The guilty verdict resulted in his removal from his Marvel role as Kang the Conqueror.
