Investigators in Missouri are on the hunt for a man who allegedly shot a Black woman and repeatedly called her the N-word before fleeing the scene. Narrating the incident to KDSK, the victim, April Brown, said the gun was discharged when the suspect, Adam Lee Pillow, was pistol-whipping her.
Brown said she is still traumatized by the incident. Describing it as the most horrifying thing she has ever had to endure, Brown said she was struck in the ear and neck. The shooting has left her with a hearing impairment on the damaged ear. She also needs to undergo plastic surgery.
“I can’t eat at all, not even applesauce,” she said. “It was mortifying.” Pillow, 40, has been charged with second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
According to the police report, the incident happened on April 6 when Brown got into an altercation with a roommate of a friend she was visiting. She said she was subsequently confronted by the man when she tried leaving, KDSK reports.
“This white guy came out of nowhere,” she said. “Looked at me and said four times f-word, n-word, n-word, n-word.”
Brown said things then escalated.
“Then [he] held a gun from about 2 feet away, moved closer with the gun, called me the n-word again, then shot me on the left side of my face,” she said, adding that the suspect fled the scene after the shooting.
“I was kind of out of it,” she told KDSK. “My hearing at that point was gone. There was blood pouring out the left side of my face, pouring out.”
A no-bond warrant on Pillow has been issued by a judge. Brown also wants Pillow to face the full brunt of the law.
“Very scared that he’s still out there,” she said.
Contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office if you have any information on the suspect’s whereabouts, authorities said.
